Video Poker: The Basic Winning Hands

Just like in regular poker, certain combinations of cards count as winners. The less likely they are to occur, the higher they’ll pay if you get them. Here are the basic winning hands, listed in descending order starting with the highest-ranking possible hand. Note that in multi-player games, the highest ranking hand at the table beats out all the others.

  • Royal Straight Flush: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and 10, all of one suit.
  • Straight Flush: All five cards in numerical order, all in one suit.
  • Four-of-a-Kind: Four cards of the same value.
  • Full House: Three cards of the same value, two of another.
  • Flush: All five cards of the same suit.
  • Straight: All five cards in numerical order, mixed suits.
  • Three-of-a-Kind: Three cards of the same value.
  • Two Pairs: Two cards each of two different values.
  • One Pair: Two cards of a single value.
  • High Card: When there are no winning hands at the table in a multi-player game, whoever holds a card of the highest value wins; a tie is broken by the card of the next-highest value; and so on, if necessary, until there is a winner.
